January Sweater

My January sweater is finished!

I still need to carve out time to put it on for proper pictures, but the knitting is finished! And I really love the shape, the drape and the texture of this one! That little "knot" stitch on the front is just lovely.

I'm already planning both a photo sesh and another one of these...in purple! But, for now, this Four Seasons Jumper will wait patiently, since I did not bring home my tripod.

In other news, this little guy stayed overnight with me and Pop Pop,

his brothers (and Mama) are visiting now, and I am doing my best to revive my sourdough starter, so this never happens again...lol!

Busy Saturdays seem to be the standard in the Pretty life! How is your weekend going?

January Goals

Yes, goals. Not resolutions. More specifically, this post is about my January knitting goals, which will be met, yay! My goals were to knit a pair of Christmas socks, which are finished, yay...

...and a January sweater, which will be done by month-end! Again, YAY!

I'm also planning to cast on another sweater, mittens and a pair of socks for me. I'm not sure I'll get those done as quickly, but I am excited to be doing a little selfish knitting before I get back to the roots and kid-knits. After all, the Rainbow Yoshi pattern needs some revision, in my opinion...

...it seems to have an odd shape and the parts seem disproportionate to me, so the plan is a little modification. Or maybe a LOT of modification! In any case, not until after the current projects are done.

Sometimes the planning is as much fun as the knitting, you know. I mean, Easter is coming, so there should be bunnies of some sort... And there's a crochet pattern out there for marshmallows with dino costumes...ummm, super cute! And it is snowy and cold outside, which is proper winter/knitting-inside weather. So. Many. Plans!

What are your plans for the weekend? For winter (summer, if you're Down Under)? Whatever you're plans are, I hope you can sprinkle in some joy!

Oh! And we did a puzzle!

Sleepy Saturday

I am sleepy! 2024 has started busy, and there have been some hard moments already. Yesterday, I attended the funeral of a dear woman, and you know how these things sometimes wipe a body out? Well, I am wiped out. I slept until 9:30am, that's like 11 hours, which is about 5 hours more than I usually sleep!

To combat the sleepy, I may just take a nap. Or I may just keep working on some super-simple socks. By the way, if you've been considering one of those "slap bracelet," sock-sizing rulers, they are very cool and useful! But mine is not as accurate as I'd like, I am sad to say...

I wear a women's size 10US shoe, but I normally knit a size 9 sock (my feet are not super long, but wide). To test this ruler, I measured to the knuckle of my big toe, as usual. Then I held up the rule to my sock/foot, and it measures a size 7...I'd need to knit about half an inch more to reach the size 9 line. (Also, FWIW, I also thought the ruler on the back was an inch off, until I realized that the markings start at 1", not zero. So that was definitely user-error...ugh!)

So, clearly, I need a nap. If you also need a nap, please take a nap...and enjoy the long weekend, if you have one. 😴

No Secret Knitting

For the first time in a long time, there has been no secret knitting for Christmas. There was knitting for Christmas, to be sure, but it wasn't a secret. This knitter needed input for cardigans and pullovers, requested by granddaughters who wanted something just so. The hoodie is so far behind schedule, that it has become a birthday gift! (It will also be late for this deadline, but I have sent pics to the nearly-nine-year-old, and she knows how close it is!) Tonight, I am down to the "duck details" on this Psyduck hoodie...wish me luck!

Oh!, and the after-Christmas, rainbow Yoshi is well underway...

The other thing I thought I might tackle in the new year is a closet declutter. There was a group to join on FB, and I joined the parade straightaway, as though I were one of the little people at our grandsons' house...

It sounded like a really good idea, until I got in there and realized that I had just done this last February!

So, the closet looks pretty good. My apologies. Lol.

The yarn room, could use some work, but I'm not ready for that...still creating the collection in there! Instead of the yarn, we tackled the taking down of all things Christmas over the long weekend. Well, most things Christmas...the gnomes

and my light-up snowman still stand, but the tree is gone, and we have moved the furniture around a bit. I like it!

But, as with any rearrangement, there are things you find that just aren't necessary anymore. Like this.

This is the bouquet from our wedding. It has survived multiple moves, vicious vacuums, and curious cats through the years...and I could hold onto it for the next 13 years, until our golden anniversary...or I could save myself from my pack-rat tendencies and toss it this year. I think I'll go for the latter. It's dusty, the ribbons are yellowed, and some of the flowers are just...gone. It may be time.

As sad as it can be to let go of things, the memories these flowers invoke are still strong. Two crazy kids, who barely knew what life was about, diving into the weird adventure that marriage is some 37 years ago. It's been a wild ride...sometimes better, sometimes worse, most times unpredictable...but we are still buckled in, so yay!

So, Happy New Year to you and yours! As you can see, I don't have many resolutions, I wonder if you have? Yes or no, take a moment to say hello in the comments, if you like!
