A Fair-ly Nice Week!

We went to the County Fair this week with Jess and her boys, and it was fun!

I took three photos.

Wait. What? Well, you're right. I took more than 3 photos. What I had on my phone, when we left, was about 3 good-ish photos, so here they are:

"Lookit me! I'm in da wheel!"

Wait. Is that kid sitting still? Just for a second!

Watching where we walk, all evening!

Many will tell me that this is a good thing. I was living the moment instead of capturing the moment, and I know that this is true...but I do like having the pictures. Pictures are less work than words. After all, if a picture is worth a thousand words (which is a fairly well-documented truth, according to photographers anyway...lol), this blog is way shorter with photos!

One of my favorite things at the fair was walking through the animal barns to see rabbits, cows, pigs, chickens (we even got to pet a floofy chicken!) and freshly-shorn sheep! As the biggest of the boys puzzled at the sheep without their fleece, I reminded him of a book we have often read about Farmer Brown. It's a children's book about how the farmer gives the sheep their haircuts, then goes all around town to have the wool washed, combed, spun and dyed, before taking it home to knit all of his sheep new sweaters before it gets cold in the fall and winter. (I'm not sure Farmer Brown sleeps...)

I told the boys, "These sheep are still waiting for their sweaters!," which elicited a big smile from that big boy! He knows where yarn and sweaters come from, and it is good.

Besides the animals, there was the food. Saucy, dripping burgers with lettuce and mayo falling out; salty, greasy, shoestring fries in the kind of container that makes it hard to reach the ones at the bottom; hot pretzels, snow cones and cotton candy...yes, it was a lovely, balanced dinner at the fair! Hahaha...

There was also people-watching and a couple of games, though we did not ride any of the rides. I don't know about you, but I always worry a little about the temporarily-installed, fair rides, and I believe my daughter feels the same way...and rides or no rides, it was a good time.

On the way back to the car, the littlest two fell asleep in their wagon, which was good. However, when the middle boy conked out, he conked heads with the baby. Oops! There were tears, short-lived, then we all piled back into our cars to drive our full bellies and some new dirt home, looking forward to our next adventure!

Like the sheep, while I wait for our next adventure, I am also waiting for my sweater! It's a test knit for one of my favorite knitting designers, Shanalines Designs...here's a tiny peek of more progress.

Yes, this one is going to be so good, and I can't wait until it's released! By the way, even though the pattern isn't out yet, I'm guessing you could get your hands on that luscious yarn by Suburban Stitcher! These colors are It's Electric and Nectar, and I love them!

I'm glad you stopped by today, and I'd love to know what your next big adventure will be! Have you gone to any good fairs or festivals this summer, or are you still planning to? I'd love to hear about them in the comments!

Until next time, as always, Knit in Good Health!

FYI - nobody asks me (or pays me) to talk about yarn, designers or books in my blog. I'm just a gal who likes to share what she likes!

Noteworthy?

Things I've noticed this week:

This kid needs a new rainbow sweater (so I need to go shopping!).

He just keeps growing!

This kid really loves his mommy!

This kid really likes his little brother!

This guy is still pretty handsome!

These ducks are funny looking! (But, they're ducks, and that is part of being a duck, and there were a LOT of ducks at Sandy Ridge on Friday afternoon!)

That one on the rock! Ha!

Feet are fantastic!

Spiders are pretty good weavers! (See that white thing in the middle, look hard...spiderweb!)

Don't walk through THAT one! Blech!

Iced coffee is a process...

FWIW, tomato juice does NOT go with iced coffee...

This gal still likes to knit multiples!

Class set 1, complete!

Class set 2, getting there!

Yes, it was a noteworthy week around here. How was your week? I hope it was good, and I'm glad you stopped in today! That's all for now, though...

Status Quo and a Little Knitting

This week has been fairly status quo, with knitting

and morning glories

and more knitting,

Another Shanalines Design, in the test phase!
even on the patio with friends!

And last night, we had some fun with the boys (and their  parents) at a local playground!

In the middle of the week, there was a little stress, as I am still trying to figure out why my hip has been hurting. But now the doctor has another idea, so we'll see where that goes. In the meantime, I suppose that I'll keep knitting and counting the blooms in my flower boxes

between visits from the kids!

Even though my aging body betrays me occasionally, this is a very good season of my life, and there is so much joy. I sincerely hope that you are also finding joy, whatever this season of your life brings, and I thank you for stopping by today!

Universal Truths

This week, I found that there are still things that are universally true. For example, if you grow a pretty flower, and you post a picture to Facebook, someone, somewhere will agree with you that the flower is pretty. Maybe someone else won't be impressed, but that's ok. This week, I got to "chat" with a friend in Japan who also loves the simple beauty of Morning Glory blooms!

Also, if you throw something sticky at the ceiling, it will stick to the ceiling. I guess I didn't realize how sticky this little kawaii squishy chicken was...until the three-year-old whipped it up to the ceiling with most of his strength! He thought it would bounce down hard, and we were both surprised that this chick just hung there for a rest! Hahaha!

Oh! And if one knits a green dinosaur, it will be universally accepted, without question. But, if one knits a rainbow dinosaur, well...there will be questions. This knitter doesn't care. Bring on the questions!
Does he like crunchy, cheese snacks? Well, did you see his yellow paws?

But watch out, he also likes coffee. Hey! Get away from there, Cheese-Paws!

Too late. Lol...

Oh, and if you go to the beach with kids, even if you don't plan to go into the water...

...those littles will find a way to be completely wet and covered in sand!

(Both of the bigger boys looked like this, but that middle kid is too fast for my camera! And, if you're worried, the baby and I stayed off the sand. We were only covered in sweat...ha!)

Lastly, and perhaps the most universal truth I learned this week is this: If you ask a child who is drawing a "Pirate Map" whether there are sharks in the water, you will soon be singing Baby Shark while the mommies in the room roll their eyes! I did not take a picture of this moment, but if you are a parent...or a grandparent, an aunt or an uncle, or a child-care worker in any capacity...you know the truth of this one!

Hmmm, I can't explain it, but I have a sudden urge to knit a baby shark. Who'd a-thunk it?!?

::Ummm, anyone who has ever known you, Pretty!::

Hahaha! That's right! I know that's right!!! <smacks leg, rolls over with laughter!> I don't think it's a universal truth, but it is a very truth-y truth, to be sure!

There is one more truth I'd like to end with, and that is this: Most people, in most places, will respond to kindness with kindness. So be kind this week, friends!

Thanks for stopping by, and Knit in Good Health!
