Hairy Choices...

Every year, at this time, I start to think about two things:

1. Woolapalooza, Babyyyyy! (Today is the day, friends! Whoop! Whoop!)

and
2. My Hair. Most girls will tell you that hair is part of who they are. Mrs Maisel has a signature style, and my daughter tells me that I have a signature "swoosh." I suppose she is right...I mean, whether it is long,

short,

or in between,

I part it on my left, and Swoosh! There it is! It just falls that way, and most of the time, I really love it. Oh, I do have the occasional bad hair day, same as anyone,

but by the time I decide to "just chop it all off!," it usually starts to behave again. Yes, I've good good hair, and I know it!

And I like it long, and I like it short, and I tolerate the in between pretty well, so there you have it. But the other day, as I was getting ready to take a shower, I noticed that my next haircut will likely bring a significant change.

I mean, I know I am going gray, because I am 55...and I have eyes. But this pic just brought it home. Those auburn ends, swooshed and swept up from my shoulders, showing off against the gray on top...they made me think twice about the annual haircut.

I'll probably get it cut anyway, because summer is coming, and it will grow back...but those ends. They will not grow back, will they?

They will not. And that's ok. Sometimes you just have to cut it off, mourn the loss, and wait to see how it grows...with hair and some other things in life, too. So, yeah, I'll get a haircut soon...and I'll check to see if anything else needs a little pruning. Chances are good that I will NOT prune my yarn stash though, because (see #1 above) today is WOOLAPALOOZA, Babyyyyy!

If you're headed to the Wayne County Fairgrounds for the Great Lakes Fiber Show today, look for me!

Best of...Church Secretary Edition

I like to say that I was made to work in a church. Some have told me that I'd make a good pastor, but my ambition is administration, and I really love organizing all the little details. I love my job, and I am thankful most days.

Besides the people, friendship, shared faith and spiritual growth, some of the best things about working at church are:

Getting there first...

Beautiful reminders of God in his creation...

Finding a place for leftover flowers...

Having a lovely backdrop for photos...

And notes from a "secret edmirier" in the collection!

Along with the chaos that is a church office, these things all keep me grounded, and I love them! All this and knitting...!

What's keeping you grounded these days?

Better Week...Yay!

This week, while not perfect, was much better than last week's slog, so yay! There was knitting,

Sunshine and bubbles...and an Oreo cookie,

An afternoon at the zoo,

Some time in nature with the big boys,

and even a sleepover last night, complete with donuts this morning!

All of this means that I'm a little extra tired today, but it was all worth it. Maybe I'll grab a nap tomorrow, though...

What's keeping you busy? Whatever it is, I hope you've got some buddies to enjoy it with.

A Slog, a Sock and a Story

Welcome to my week. This one's been a bit of a slog, and I'm feeling less "on top of the world" and more "flattened beneath a steamroller" than usual. I'm sure you've had that kind of a week at some point.

I've been making mistakes, at home and in my knitting, and feeling a bit under the weather, yes...very sloggy indeed. The week started well, coming on the heels of a Knitters' Weekend near the lake,  with all the food (maybe I'm sloggy from being too full? nahhhh...)

All the friends and fun I could hope for...

Oh, and the knitting! Sock knitting (heck! all knitting) is blissful on a knitters' weekend!

Then there's Monday. Monday, Monday...which leads to Tuesday...which is good. By Tuesday, I really needed a dose of silly to lift my spirits. These brothers and their parents are good at that!

By the way, take some time with that photo...it tells a story. It's a funny story to many, but notsomuch to the biggest brother! But he got through it, soooo, whew!

Then we were on to the rest of the week, which was no more cooperative than Monday. But today is Saturday, and I'm taking it easy... because sometimes I've just got to stop and breathe...in through the nose, out through the mouth...that's better. Maybe some knitting, too.

Yes, I'm looking forward to a better week ahead! I'm not sure what your week was like, but here's hoping that the next seven days bring you more laughter than pain. If that's not how it lines up for you, remember you're not alone. We've all been there. And if you need a bright spot to help get you through, here are some neutral, knitted gnomes getting ready for the brighter days of summer.
