Ahoy!

How does one follow a post about puppy love and family funtimes?

With Vacation Bible School, of course!

We Set Sail at Avon UMC for 5 days of songs, crafts, games and all kinds of crazy fun!

On the last night of VBS, even parents and little brothers were invited to join the chaos, amd everyone had a ridiculously good time!

I've spent the last two days recovering and knitting...working up a quick housewarming gift,

and starting in on a pair of socks and a rainbow, balloon dog (as one does, when requested by a 5-year-old)

Not sure how that last one is going to end up, but I'm hopeful that it will be fun! I mean, who doesn't love a balloon amimal? And this one should not pop...like, ever!

This summer has been nonstop, and I'm occasionally struggling to find some down time. But I am hopeful that the coming week will be a little slower-paced...after all, I have some knitting to get done!

How has your summer been? Whether it's been "fast and furious" or "slow and steady," I hope you've had small moments of calm along the way. When you've spent all your time and energy doing for others,  peace and joy can be the fuel that fills your emotional gas tank. That's what I wish for the rest of your summer.

Maybe try to catch a butterfly!

I've Got That Feeling

I've got a funny feeling. Not tummy funny, like when you order fast food from toddlers at the playground...

Not dizzy... I mean, there was a lot of spinning last night, when Pop Pop and I took the boys to a Jim Gill concert at one of our local libraries, but I think I'm over that today.

And there were a lot of spin-around

and up-and-down fun things at the playground after the concert...

But I didn't ride those, and we've all had a good night's sleep now...so what is this funny feeling?

My feet hurt a bit from walking around in the wrong shoes yesterday (oh! my achin' feet), so I have a feeling that they would enjoy another pair of stripey socks to slip on...

Especially since I finished the last pair of stripey socks on Wednesday. They have random butterfly stitches on them!

And I have a funny feeling that I'll be knitting more frogs...

...and possibly working a little hand-embroidery to repair a hole in one of my favorite pair of summer capris. (I'm not sure how that will go, so I'll let you know next week.)

Wait! I've got it! I've got that feeling that the annual Woolapalooza trip is coming up! Yes! That's it! Yay for that Woolapalooza feeling!

X marks the spot for Woolapalooza, Baby!

Anyone else in Blogland planning to attend the Great Lakes Fiber Show on Saturday? Message me, or look for me there, if you are. Perhaps we can have some fun together!

It's Gonna Be Wild!

Once upon a time, when my own kids were small (and a bit beyond that even), I looked forward to VBS (Vacation Bible School) every year! It was so fun, and I wish I had digital photos to show you, but that was another time and place. Wasn't it? I mean, I like to think the old VBS photos are hanging around somewhere, but mostly those memories live in my mind, and that's ok.

Eventually I had a couple of grandkids, and I was so excited to share the experience with our first little peanut, as she came of age for such things...

By the way, she is 12. She's a "Swiftie" now (went to see the Eras Tour last night with her family), and I'm not sure she would be thrilled to know that I know that she sometimes sang those church songs in the shower back in the day, but her mommy told me she did!

So, it's been a minute since I've been a part of VBS, but the oldest of our grandsons has been asking about church, so I've signed him (and me) up to attend! As a volunteer, I had the awesome opportunity to help with setup. I'm not sure, but I might have had just as much fun at church as the Swifties had last night! I mean, these people are Wild!

Jump rope anyone?

No, tying up Marcie is better...

Or Miss Amanda. Yes, tie her up too!

Miss Amanda, I think you have lost control...

Well, that's what we did, in between perching perilously on chairs and creating water and trees from thin air for our Wild Life week! Yes, the volunteers have transformed the church, and VBS is gonna be Wild all week!

If you're local, you can sign up and get all the details at this link: VBS Registration, and I hope you'll consider it! Even if you don't get a chance to register ahead, join us tomorrow at 6 (come a little early to fill out a short form)! We will play games, sing songs, get a little wild and have so much fun learning that Jesus is Wild About Us all week!

If you're not local, look around for a VBS near you. Memories and new friends are made at VBS, whether you're a volunteer or a kid, and summer is all about memories and new friends!

Now, it's time for me to settle in and knit a bit on my Modulancho...it is growing daily, and I am enjoying the process as it comes together!

What's got you excited this summer? Whether it's VBS or something else, drop a comment and tell me about it!

CKW Christmas Party - 2021 Edition

'Twas two weeks before Christmas, and I was preparing
for knitters to join in the fun!
The tree was decked out with cookies and caramel,
everyone came, but the sun.

Our stockings weren't hung, they were bags on the floor,
just waiting for someone to stuff them.

As each knitter came in, she took off her shoes,
Sweetie made this shoe rack, so great to have!
and headed upstairs with no bluffing!

Then they all sat around, knitting and laughing,
and we face-timed Alice right in (yay!);

We even remembered to take our sock picture,
to show off the fun of this day!
I love that Alice's "sock" is in the pic!
Of course there was food, my counters were ready,
for cheeses, and cookies and such.
We filled up our plates and ate ourselves silly,
knitters are quite the "foodie" bunch!

The party kept going, and we knitted some more,
then decided to open our gifts.

Brown sugar keepers, sachets, bags and baubles,
notepads and markers for stitches!

.

We had so much fun, talking, knitting and singing,
which earned us an eye-roll from Judy;
I think Brenda and Alice and some of the others
agreed with Judy quite fully!
Judy does NOT want a hippopotamus for Christmas!
Back to the kitchen, before friends started leaving,
packing up each knitter's load;

Our party is so fun, but Christmas keeps coming,
just one more shot for the road!

Still not great at selfies...
but I'm in focus...hahaha!
And as each knitter left, loaded down with her goodies,
that wind blew stronger than ever.
But I heard them exclaim, blustering out the door,
"My favorite Christmas party ever!"
Even the Elf on the Shelf is jealous!
Oh, man! What fun it was to host this year's party in our new home! Thank you to all my CKW peeps who joined and participated in Stuffers this year. Everything was delicious, and beautiful, and I love each of you dearly.

For those of you not in CKW, these friends are part of why I knit. Knitting brought me into this circle, and I never would have guessed how much my connections with them would enrich my life. If you have not found your people, your tribe, your community, keep looking. They are out there.

"Somewhere, out there, beneath the pale moonlight..."

Oops! Still vying for that Judy eye-roll, I suppose! Anyhoo...I hope you are ready for whatever comes next in your world. For me, it is Christmas (next Saturday, what? when did this happen? I feel like 2021 has just flown by!). I think most of my shopping is done...perhaps I should start wrapping? Lol...yes! I should start wrapping (but not rapping, Judy...honest).
The cat will be napping...not rapping!
Thanks for stopping by in this busy season, and Knit (and shop and wrap and sing) in Good Health!
