What a Ride!

There's a Christmas song that exclaims, "Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one-horse, open sleigh!" I suppose that is pretty fun...although I have never been on such a ride. Mr. Pretty and I have been on many other rides, however, and we have had so much fun these past two weeks!

We have been on the Granddaughters Come for a Visit ride...which includes lots of playtime, outdoors and in...

...and knitting ALL THE THINGS the girls request!

We have been on the Full House ride, too. There is hardly a space left that has not been touched by tiny hands and toys everywhere...I love it!

We have been on the Birthday ride, which Pop Pop gave us a reason for!

And (maybe best of all this year) we have been to THE amusement park for all the thrill rides! Cedar Point is my happy place, as I went there every summer while I was growing up, and I have so many fond memories of fun, family, friends and fantastic thrills. More memories were made this year, for sure!

We got the girls on lots of fun rides, too!

What I learned, while watching them ride, is that it is sometimes easy to get a photos of your son and granddaughter on a round-and-round ride...

...and sometimes your very best round-and-round ride photo is a random kid in a green shirt (who is having a great time in car 9) instead of your daughter-in-law and granddaughter in car 12. lol!

The baby was easy to get photos of, and he had fun on the Mommy ride!

We even got Peanut on her first roller coaster, but I did not get a photo. I love pictures, you know that, but I do not love the prospect of losing my phone on a ride...sooooo no picture! But I did snap this one of both girls in line for the Tiki Twirl!

Cedar Point sure made for a fun day. We were all tired at the end, so it was time to head home to bed, but the girls got one last ride to the car!

All in all, this has been a great visit. We even got some new family photos, with all three cousins!

Wow! What a ride this visit has been, and so much fun! Today, the Colorado kids are on a plane home, so Pretty is a little sad, as per usual. But the girls have left me lists of their knitting requests, so at least I will have something to do while I wait for the next one.

No Boundaries

In a world of baby gates and outlet covers, our granddaughters are learning the wonderful truth about grandparents this visit (and every visit, really!): 

With grandparents, there are no boundaries.

Much to your parents' chagrin, grandparents will let you have donuts and pop tarts for breakfast, every day even...

Grandparents will put the pool and kiddie toys in the front yard, early in the morning...

Grandparents will take you on an impromptu visit to a horse farm, just because it was mentioned in an afternoon visit...

Grandparents will let you play with indoor toys outside...

Grandparents will drive an hour to Amish Country for lunch, stopping to let you see the ducks and feed them right out of your hand...before and after lunch!

And grandparents will think this is funny:

Yes, that is hilarious! Even when I was the one putting her to bed, and I had to put her back to bed 4 times last night, it was still funny! (As long as no one gets hurt, and she did not.)

"Who are you people???," Dollface and Mork have occasionally asked since these angels came into our lives. "You never let US do any of that stuff!"

As a bonus thought, and because this is a knitting blog, I will add that if your grandma knits, she may even make you a magical sweater with a kitty that is sometimes there...

...and sometimes not!

And you can pick out your own buttons!!!

By the way, there is a red ladybug, an orange heart, a blue flower, a pink circle and a chicken. Yep. A chicken...no boundaries!

Covert Ops...

So, in the last post, I mentioned a little visit. You know that I usually don't mention visits until they are done...the visiting is usually so intense that I blog in advance actually! This visit was as intense and wonderful as ever, and we enjoyed our time with Mindy and the girls immensely! There were walks to the park,

with lots of time on the swings,

and the monkey bars and monkey everything, because they like to climb and run and play!

There were walks (rides in the wagon) in our neighborhood,

walks at the zoo,

running at the zoo,

and feeding of the animals!

and so many wonderful hugs,

but I was not at liberty to say! It just about killed me! Especially when we took Peanut to her first year of Vacation Bible School, and her picture showed up on the church's FB page! lol!

But I kept the secret! Even when toddler eyes were begging me to post the cuteness to the internet!

Why was I under a gag order?, you ask. Well, Mindy and Peanut and Sweet Pea had snuck into town for a surprise birthday party for Mindy's mom! What a fun reason to keep a secret, and the party was a success...super-yay! Happy Birthday (a little late) Sue! I'm sorry I couldn't tell you they were here!

So, in the end, everyone had a wonderful time, and the girls now have new sweaters for when fall arrives. A red one for Peanut, 

and a purple sweater for Sweet Pea!

Now, there are several friends on my list who still don't have sweaters for fall, so I must stop blogging and get after it! I hope that you are enjoying the summer, and that all your stitches and swatches are behaving themselves. This is a short season in my neck of the woods, so I want to take advantage of the slightly slower pace and lovely weather while I can!

Take a Little Trip With Me...

Over the weekend, while the cats were blogging, Sweetie and I took a little road trip. We like to do that whenever we can, especially if there are granddaughters at our final destination! This trip was no exception, and (although they did not know that we were coming...it was a surprise) the girls were pretty excited to see us...

They had been at a party when we rolled up to the house, so we unpacked and "rested our eyes" for a few moments before they arrived home. It's a good thing we had a little rest, because the rest of our weekend was a whirlwind of activity!

There was golf for Pop Pop and Daddy, while the girls and I went to the playground. They were not as impressed with my ability to swing them so very evenly and get the shot...and I think the big one said, "What are you doing, Gwamma? And why aren't you pushing us???"

One of my goals for the weekend was to get a family picture of the four of them. When we left to come home, I was a little sad that it hadn't come to pass. But, as I was going through the photos from the trip, I realized that I did get one photo of all four of them, quite by accident.

Peanut went to her first dance on Saturday night...with a boy! She and her very handsome Dad went to a Father/Daughter dance, and all the requisite pre-dance photos were taken by Mom and Grandma. We even got the out-of-doors, pre-dance photos, complete with dogs in the background, wondering when they will get to go to a dance...

When the cats saw that one, they laughed out loud. "Dogs don't dance! Silly dogs..." I laughed when I saw the tie! We bought that one for him when he was in jr. high or high school, and I can still remember tying a full windsor knot for him the first time he wore it. I also remember that he never untied that knot. He just slipped the tie over his head every time he wore it. I wonder if that is still the same knot...

Anyhoo, while Peanut and her daddy were at the dance, we got some one-on-one time with the littlest Sweet Pea! There were snuggles, deep conversation and lots of laughs!

We went to the playground, and she just ate up all of our attention!

Bonus, a little later in the weekend, Peanut decided to sit down with her knitting. 

She's still not quite there with her stitches, but she sure loves yarn and spending time knitting with Gramma. The stitches will come, in time. For now, we'll concentrate on our selfies and popsicles! These tiny people really know how to rock the selfie!

In between selfies and knitting, there was lots of playtime in the backyard, 

and daily walks to the park...sometimes twice in one day! Look...she's helping him push her sister! 

Now that we are back in our home state, back to work, and back to the regular stuff of life, Pop Pop and I will have to be content with photos to share with friends. I'm sure we will see them again soon, and I look forward to our next visit, whether it is here or there. Regardless of the location, I am sure that the smiles will be plentiful, and I know that the love will flow as freely as ever.
