All the Unpacking...

Still living out of boxes, so not much time to write. But the cats seem content, and I'm calling it all good!

More details, and (hopefully) moved-in-and-out-of-boxes next week, friends!

What Are You Wearing?

I usually try to keep my nose clean, but today I'll just keep it covered.

Face masks. Do you wear them in public? I generally have for the past few months, and as of yesterday, they are required where I live. I'm in a Level 3 county now.

There is so much research about face masks and the general public, and let’s face it, most of us are not wearing our masks the way we would if we could see the zombie spores in the air around us. But our aim in wearing a mask is not to avoid zombie spores. Our aim at this time is to avoid spreading a germ we cannot see, feel or smell, even if we have it.

I wear a mask to protect you from my germs, even though I do not feel sick. I know that my mask does not protect me from your germs, but science tells us that if we both wear masks covering mouth and nose, fewer germs are out there. I wear a mask in the indoor spaces where I will likely encounter other people, whether they wear masks or not. It is not any kind of statement, it is one person caring about other people and not wanting to share droplets.

Wearing a mask is not enjoyable, but I believe that it shows love, though it may make you or me uncomfortable. Every minute that I wear a mask, I fight my glasses fogging up and I feel a little like I am stuck inside my own face. It causes me anxiety to have the fog impeding my vision; to feel my own hot breath coming back into my nose; to feel like I have to try harder for oxygen...and in all honesty, I whip that puppy off as fast as I can once I get outside and away from people again.

I guess, for me, wearing a mask is a little like sharing my faith.
  • Both are hard to do sometimes, but totally within my power.
  • I don't have to do either, but I believe that others may benefit when I do, even if it makes one or both of us uncomfortable for a time.
  • I do both to help myself follow the "love one another" commandment, like Jesus asked his followers to do. (John 13:34)
The church I attend will start meeting in person soon, and when you see me indoors there, I will be wearing a mask. Whether you agree with me on the mask issue (or any issue) or not, I hope that we can continue to love one another and live in peace together.

Wherever you are in this debate, I pray that you are well, and that you are feeling the love of the Lord in your life. If you are not, and you are looking for more information, just ask me. I’ll be glad to chat and/or to point you in the direction of a Bible-based church service you can check out this Sunday. Here’s a link to the online sermon video premiere I will be hosting for the Methodist church I work with: 2020-07-12 Treasures and Pearls

And Pretty was Her Name-O

There was a gal who had some yarn, and Pretty was her name-o!
P-R-E-TT-Y, P-R-E-TT-Y, P-R-E-TT-Y, and Pretty was her name-o!...

Yes, she had some yarn...she had a LOT of yarn!...but apparently not enough, because she is suddenly making her own! Actually, I just got a new spindle, my first Turkish spindle, and it is very cool for a couple of reasons...
  1. It was made on a 3D printer! What?!? I know!!! So, now I can make yarn, like yarnigans have been doing since the beginning of yarn-time, but my tools are very much of the 21st Century variety! So. Very. Cool.
  2. It's a Turkish spindle, which means that the yarn (singles and/or plied yarn) comes off the spindle in a ready-made, center-pull ball! It's ready-to-eat yarn (in a sense), and I can 2-ply from both ends of the ball right away, or I can knit from a center-pull ball right away!
  3. I get to pick my colors! After all, Turtle Made just puts the right color cartridge in, orders up the parts, and bam! Custom-made for Pretty!!! My first one has a turquoise shaft, and pink and purple arms...when it spins, it looks like this:

I've seen a lot of that lately! I'm currently spinning this sky-blue merino pretty fine, hoping for a 2-ply, fingering weight yarn...and after the first 2 ounces,

I am pretty sure that's what I'll get! Of course, with 2 ounces on the spindle, which already weighs about an ounce, my thin singles are coming apart more than I'd like under the weight, so I will soon take this center-pull, "turtle" (which is one name for the center-pull ball created by a Turkish spindle) off my spindle and start on the other half of the braid. I am actually really looking forward to that!

(Psst! You know what else? I ordered another spindle just the other day...gah! I love these 3D printed spindles!!!)

In Knitting Knews, I'm still working on some ziggety socks,

and I've cast on a bunny!

After all, it's nearly Easter! This year, I WILL KNIT A BUNNY!!! (Or two...or 25...you know...)

Are you knitting a bunny this year? Whether your answer is yes or no, thanks for stopping by, and...

No, thanks, Mom.

Remember the snow socks I made for Dollface? I didn't check to be sure the yarn could be washed, and it is hand-wash only...I made the offer of washing them for her, when needed, but she is too afraid of shrinking them to take the socks. I don't know whether to be sad at the gift deferred, or happy that she so respects the gift that she feels unworthy. Either way, looks like I have a new pair of really warm socks.

Now, to find superwash sport or DK for her and Snake, and maybe I'll still make a second pair of these for Sweetie! After all, I do the laundry in the pretty house, so I know he will wear them...lol! In the meantime, however, I am going to knit for people who can't talk (yet), in soft, easy-care yarn. My knitting time has been limited, so it's taken me nearly a week, but this 5-hour sweater is almost done. Hopefully the baby who receives it will enjoy wearing it!

We'll never know, will we? lol! Maybe her mommy will tell...

This is a busy weekend, so I'm cutting it short here. I hope that your feet are warm, that you are staying healthy, and that you have found some joy in your January! (Let's hope that groundhog is good to us on Monday!)

Stuck in the Middle (of the week)

This has been an interesting week. I haven't made it to see Sweet Pea in person (yet), but there are plans afoot. Still it's only just mid-week, and most of our visits happen on weekends...so for now, how about I show you some knitting? :)

First up, a finished cardigan for a sweet little miss...

Not one of my granddaughters, but a dear friend at church. She was also the recipient of the stripey socks you saw last Wednesday! I know it's big for her now, but I can't wait to see these little buttons on that sweet baby!

And then another cardi on the needles! This one for a young man (very young, at age one!) at church that I never did get around to knitting a newborn size for...Who? is it for?

Yes, I just love that cabled owl motif! I've put it center back, at the waist, and I'm also carrying it up next to the button bands. There aren't many pics yet, but that one is a pretty good representation of how the knitting makes me feel...warm and cozy, with a hot cuppa joe at the ready on a cold winter's day!

There was more, but I've been lax with the photos lately. Maybe I can make up for that on Saturday. In any case, thanks for stopping by for your mid-week "Pretty fix," and Knit in Good Health!
