With and Without Red Toes

Did you ever get your hands on a sock yarn that just made you sigh with contentment? You pick up your needles and start stitching, and every stitch just makes you happy. Sometimes, if it's a stripey sock yarn, you feel like you're doing a magic trick every time the color changes...it just passes through your fingers and "Poof!" New color! That's how I am feeling about the Lighthouse colorway of this Knit Picks Felici yarn.

I know I'm late to the party, because I didn't really even get my hands on any of this stuff until it had already been declared "discontinued," but I have spent the past few months enhancing my stash with about 7 different colorways (and lamenting a little at the ones that are already gone forever). I'm not a star stasher like some of my friends, but these days I stash a lot more than I used to. :) I don't even feel badly about it, because we all know that sock yarn doesn't count! Especially when your socks are simply smashing, like these!

So very smashing that I've decided to knit another pair in this color as well, but with a twist. The second pair should have red toes and heels...now, for some red sock yarn...

Wait a minute. Hmmm, no reds in my stash? Nope. But fear not! I have Easter egg dyes, and there's some white there! And now, we have red!

It's going to be grand in the toes and heels of my second pair of Lighthouse socks, see?

Off I go now, to stitch socks and sorcery in stripes! How much self-striping yarn is there in your stash???

Dyeing to get married!

No, not me. I am already married. . .have been for quite some time now. . .Happily, too! Dollface? Yes, she is quite anxious, to say the least. . .but that's not really what this post is about. Remember this?

Remember how I bragged last week about it being done? Since I wrote that, it's actually been blocked too. I'd like to brag about that a little and then sit back on my knitting caboose and relax, but you know what? That shawl is very natural in it's color. . .and she let me know that her dress is very, very WHITE. . .and furthermore, she let me know that the two do not match. Could I dye that beautiful shawl RED, you know, to match the bridesmaids' dresses? Because it's such a pretty shawl. . .and she really, really likes it. . .but it just doesn't match anything. . ."can you, Mommmm?!?"

Well, I have dyed a few things here and there, so I am gonna give it a shot. gulp! If you are the praying kind, hold me up this week, because if this doesn't go well. . .well, I'll be knitting another one. . .which isn't so bad, until those last 3594 stitches. . .so I started experimenting with color last night. . .
Nooo, those aren't Easter eggs. . .that was last week, Silly! Look at them again, in the rinse water this time. . .little "mini skeins" of the yarn I knit that shawl in. . .
I did some mixing, then used the blue and orange as my "control" colors, so that I could monitor the intensity of the dyes. . .and you know what? I think that one in the middle mightjustbe what I am looking for! I know! I can barely believe it myself, but that very deep, more-blue-red-than-orange-red color is just about the same as the girls' dresses! Bonus! - I wrote down the recipe for that color as I went (because I am so smart like that. . .occasionally anyway)!
I guess I won't know for sure until the samples dry so that I can actually place them against a dress to see, and check in with Dollface to see if she also thinks it matches. It is her wedding, after all. . .well hers and Snake's! Don't they make the cutest couple? "Mo-ommm! You're embarrassing me!"
Uh-huh. That's what I'm here for.
Thanks for stopping by, and Knit in Good Health!

Here's the Story. . .

Here's the story
Of a bag with cables,
That was knitted for a very Skinny Girl

It was knit of wool, in cream,
And then I dyed it -
And took it for a whirl! After spinning in the washer, it got pinned out -
To block the cables flat as flat could be. . . Then I lined it with some very stripey fabric And added pockets here, you see:
Then I hung it on the door to take some pictures
And the Skinny Girl came 'round to take a look,
And we knew, at once, it might get lonely. . .
Can I make a cabled bag for her books?A Cabled Bag,
A Cabled Bag -
Can I make a Cabled Bag for her books. . .?
Well, says Pretty Knitty, this is the third bag I have knitted from this pattern. Don't get me wrong, I love the pattern, but I have grown a little weary of it for now. . .perhaps I have another bag you can take for your books? You like the everlasting bagstopper?. . .I like the everlasting bagstopper!. . .Oh, well! I can always make another one! lol
In other Knitting Knews this week, I have done another bracelet. . .this one in silver, with multicolor beads. I am going to add these to the shop at some point. . .still researching price, etc. What do you think? On the fashion side of things, I have also finished another pair of socks. (You are probably cheering now. . .it means you won't hear about these again in the next blog. . .I have been going on and on for some time about loving this Knitty pattern and the Destination Yarn!)
With all of that said, I now return you to the regularly scheduled baby knitting, hat knitting, scarf knitting, sweater knitting and holiday knitting that is appropriate for the end of summer! I hope you all are having a good one!

I Could’ve Just Dye-ed!

So I did! And here is how I really feel about dyeing with Easter Egg colors:

And here is how Michelle really feels about dyeing with Kool-Aide:

And here is how the yarn turned out:

And we had so much fun with our yarn today at my house, that I almost did not get around to blogging! Bad Blogger! Bad Blogger! Bad Blogger! LOL

Almost done knitting my Hey, Teach. . .but very little knitting today. . .oh, well. Made another sale on ETSY – Yay and Yippee! And I got to play with my Daughter-In-Law and my scrapbook supplies at the same time this evening. Again, Yay and Yippee!

By the way, this is how my DD feels about Mom and Friend taking over the kitchen for yarn dyeing at lunchtime:

Good to see you. Glad to get my Wednesday blog out before midnight! Yaaaaayyyyyyy!
