Semi-Secret Stitches

Don't tell the boys, but the birthday-and-holiday crafting has started! They are still little enough that they won't see the blog accidentally, so I can show you that the top row of Minecraft blanket squares is finished, 

and the 1st square of the second row is also done...

which inspired a new project...

Pigs all around! Lol...but seriously, how cute is this worsted-weight Snonk, barely fitting into my knitting bag for work?

Pretty cute, I know! But not as cute as boys hanging out with Pop Pop and staying for a sleepover...

climbing on the playground, 

and flying a kite to get them tired for before bedtime,

and having donuts for breakfast! 

...so cute, right? Right!

It's good when a Pretty Knitty life has cutie-patooti kids in it! Even the mum had started to celebrate this season and all the goodness in it! 

Now it's time for me to get back to it, because Snonk's sweater won't knit itself! Are you doing any secret knitting? Maybe you'd better get back to it, too! 😉

Mum's the Word?

Not really too mum, I suppose. You all know it's October, right? If you don't, my little Mumkin is here to tell you all about it! (Thanks Megan & family!)

We had an early fall celebration with a trip to Hillcrest for our annual apple picking fun last weekend! 

This is the first year that all of the boys had remembered enough to know just what they wanted to do the most...from the corn pit

to the climbing tires

to the giant bubbles,

the "train," and trikes,

the apple cannon (look at the end of the cannon as it shot that apple!)

and yes, even the actual picking of apples,

we all had a blast! Even the three year old remembered the "school bus picture" (which the rest of us almost walked right past this year...oops!), and another fun photo op! 

Even though it was a hot afternoon when we went (I almost want to complain that it's too warm for fall, but I'm loving it), we still got the annual photos of Jess's family!, 

so I think that ticks everything off our list for this trip! A funny thing that happened along the way was that the middlest boy almost lost Fozzy in the corn pits. I put him in my purse (for safe keeping) and forgot him until the drive home. Jess texted, so I sent photo proof that Fozzy was safe...first, from the car

and again from home, where he was found napping with Uncle Allen.

Later, he helped Pop Pop grill our dinner, 

but when he tried to run...err climb...away, 

we finally had to call and ask Jess and the boys to pick him up! We were tired grandparents after a busy day of bear-sitting!

When I finally found a quiet moment, I got right back to the yarn play, finishing a second block of the minecraft blanket,

and even a little pair of ear ghosts!

It's been a great start to autumn for us, and I hope it's been fun for you, too!

Happy Days!

Happy Saturday all! Can anyone guess what's making me this happy? 

Could it be flag football, with my favorite almost-seven-year-old ball carrier? (By the way, thanks to Jan & Tom for the new team swag,  pictured above!)

Or knitting new colorwork mitts that match my last sweater? 

Or maybe it's frozen cokes...

Zombie parades...

Halloweekends theming...

and tiny pumpkins at the end of the trick-or-treat trail at Cedar Point!

Well, it's a little of all of that, to be sure! It's also abundant apples, making my first apple crisp of the season, following flag football... 

and we have dinner plans with friends later! There is so much good in our personal lives right now, which is so wonderful..because current events in the news often leave me worried about the world that seems to be falling apart around me. 

Still, despite all the tragedy, I know that God is in control. Even though it sometimes feels like no one is in control, because we live in a fallen world,  God is always in control (Isaiah 55). He leads me to find peace (Psalm 23) and to love others (1 Corinthians 13) while I live in this world full of uncertainty and [often misguided] disdain. I'm so thankful that "He's got the whole world in his hands," because I know it's too big a job for anyone else.

I'm also thankful for all of my friends, and for you coming to read the blog, too! What are you thankful for today?

Seasonal September

Ahhhh, Fall! There's just something about it. Cooler temps seem to make the sun shine brighter, and shorter days urge me to squeeze all the daytime fun in that I can. They also make me stop to appreciate the perfect, golden glow on even the weeds just before the sunset.

Later starts and earlier finishes make it easy to find a moment to show off recent knits for upcoming seasons and holidays, like this fall garland I'm working on for my office. 

I think there will be a Frankenstein monster, and a little green apple. I really enjoyed carefully choosing yarn for this project...then noticing those same colors in nature on last night's walk! 

I'm also enjoying a shifting perspective on all the things in my life, which seems to happen bit-by-bit with each birthday. How is it September so soon, the season of football, apples and pumpkins? 

57 certainly seems to solidly settle into the autumnal zone of this lifetime... So, I'm settling in to enjoy it, and express it, in knitting...

...and maybe some baking later today, since a co-worker shared the bounty of his apple trees this week! (Thanks Adam!)
