Steve and the Boys

Who's Steve? Inspiration for the new thing I started this week...

I have not done much with corner-to-corner crochet in the past, and I know next to nothing about Minecraft, which makes this a fun and challenging project! I'm halfway through the second block!

Another thing I've learned on this yarny adventure is how to make a decent bobbin...

So now I'm chomping at the bit to try my hand at more intarsia knitting...but first, some little kitchen scrubbies,

because you just can't drag along 23 yarns for an afghan on every little trip you take. This "yarn" is hard to see unless the lighting is very good, but it makes great scrubbies, worked flat on a diagonal, then seamed and gathered. So clever!

They are also a great travel project, which is good, because we busy grandparents get around! Just yesterday, the 3-year-old called Pop Pop and asked him to come over and play...so we did.

Full disclosure, Pop Pop did most of the playing...including bike rides

and static shocks on the slide...hahahahaha!

Later, at bedtime, that same 3-year-old told his mommy, "I'm glad Gramma let Pop Pop come over to play!" Thanks, Mommy, for texting that to us.  It made our day!

This pic's a couple weeks old.
He's still this adorable. 😉
We're off again today to flag football,  and Sunday to apple picking, so it's good to have those portable projects! What should o knit next, friends? Christmas is coming!

Guess What?

Chicken Butt!

Wait, wait, wait. That response was appropriate in the summer, when I knit ALL THE CHICKENS, but notsomuch now. Still funnier than the "Poopy Butt!" I get from the grandsons, though.

"Gramma is a Poopy Butt!" is also fun, but I was talking about the knitting. Because, as you know, I knit. I knit quite a bit. As in, I realized I had a bunch of extra yarn from a sweater,

so I knit some fingerless gloves.

However, before I was finished with those gloves, I realized they were destined to be a birthday gift, and I gave them away as soon as they were done. The recipient loves them, yay!

Then I cast on another pair last Sunday,

and they are finished today! I couldn't decide where to take my outside photos, so I tried three locations, in a tree...

on a bench...

and on a tempered and textured glass table...

Which is your favorite? I'm leaning tree or table, but the bench ain't bad either. Hey! It only took me 4 years to find my spots, sooo take your time picking a fave and drop a comment to let me know which you like best (if you want to, no pressure)

As for me, I'm off to the craft room to pick my next project, and I'll be knitting pretty until then! 😘

PS - Did you guess? Did you guess that I was knitting? Lol...

Happy Days!

Happy Saturday all! Can anyone guess what's making me this happy?

Could it be flag football, with my favorite almost-seven-year-old ball carrier? (By the way, thanks to Jan & Tom for the new team swag,  pictured above!)

Or knitting new colorwork mitts that match my last sweater?

Or maybe it's frozen cokes...

Zombie parades...

Halloweekends theming...

and tiny pumpkins at the end of the trick-or-treat trail at Cedar Point!

Well, it's a little of all of that, to be sure! It's also abundant apples, making my first apple crisp of the season, following flag football...

and we have dinner plans with friends later! There is so much good in our personal lives right now, which is so wonderful..because current events in the news often leave me worried about the world that seems to be falling apart around me.

Still, despite all the tragedy, I know that God is in control. Even though it sometimes feels like no one is in control, because we live in a fallen world,  God is always in control (Isaiah 55). He leads me to find peace (Psalm 23) and to love others (1 Corinthians 13) while I live in this world full of uncertainty and [often misguided] disdain. I'm so thankful that "He's got the whole world in his hands," because I know it's too big a job for anyone else.

I'm also thankful for all of my friends, and for you coming to read the blog, too! What are you thankful for today?

Seasonal September

Ahhhh, Fall! There's just something about it. Cooler temps seem to make the sun shine brighter, and shorter days urge me to squeeze all the daytime fun in that I can. They also make me stop to appreciate the perfect, golden glow on even the weeds just before the sunset.

Later starts and earlier finishes make it easy to find a moment to show off recent knits for upcoming seasons and holidays, like this fall garland I'm working on for my office.

I think there will be a Frankenstein monster, and a little green apple. I really enjoyed carefully choosing yarn for this project...then noticing those same colors in nature on last night's walk!

I'm also enjoying a shifting perspective on all the things in my life, which seems to happen bit-by-bit with each birthday. How is it September so soon, the season of football, apples and pumpkins?

57 certainly seems to solidly settle into the autumnal zone of this lifetime... So, I'm settling in to enjoy it, and express it, in knitting...

...and maybe some baking later today, since a co-worker shared the bounty of his apple trees this week! (Thanks Adam!)

I hope you are having a good Saturday and finding things to treasure in your heart, whatever season of life you're in!

PS - There's still some summer fun to be had...
