Yarn, Friends and Fun Times

I really thought I was going to fit in a bonus post this week, to tell you all about Woolapalooza #15, but I keep forgetting that I work in an educational setting now. May is crazy in an educational setting, friends! I've made it through...and I only have 2 weeks left in the office until I can play "Summer Break" for a few weeks, yay! But I digress...you stopped by to see the haul, right? Well, here it is!

And I met some new friends...

"Our knit group was the Gazindas, because everything
"gazinda the bag" when we're yarn shopping!"
and I played with established friends, who have been coming here with me since 2010! We'll be Gazindas one day. For now, there's still more brown and blonde hair than gray!

After the shopping, there was the usual lunch and margaritas...wait, where did mine go? Did I drink the whole thing? <hic!> I did...and it was delicious!

At the end of this busy week, after barely knitting at all, our oldest grandson graduated from Kindergarten. While I was unable to attend the graduation, Mr Pretty and I met him at Cedar Point (his parents went home when we got there), and we rode the Mine Ride twice,

Magnum once, and also the wave swinger and Ocean Motion! Plus the Dodgems with Pop Pop!

It was almost dark when we left, but before that, we took some fun photos,

and found a tiny duck!

Whoever left this behind, thanks! Look at that smile!

Ok, am I caught up on the blog now? I think yes. 😁 More next week, to be sure...but for now, I think I'll sit and knit a bit. Any objections?

Woolapalooza Number...???

It's official. I've lost count of how many times I've visited the Great Lakes Fiber Show at the Wayne County Fairgrounds on Memorial Day Weekend! My local knitting group (CKW) visits the yarn and our favorite vendors (Hi Jeanne, at Destination Yarn! We're coming for you first!)

Usually I put up this weekend's post on Saturday morning, as we are taking off for the fairgrounds, but I'm changing it up for 2025, and posting on FRIDAY! I'm not sure I've ever posted on a Friday before, but I'm gonna be up to my eyeballs in fiber fumes and yarn tomorrow, so I figured I'd better get this done while I still have my wits about me...

In short, if you're looking for the blog on Saturday afternoon, you're gonna be disappointed. But if you're looking for Pretty, I'll be in Wooster, and I'd love to see you! Just remember that the pink "X" marks the spot!

I promise to flash the new stash that comes home with me in the next post or two! 😜

Whether I see you or not over the next three days, I hope your Memorial Day Weekend is good. Remember those who gave their all for our country, and maybe have a hotdog or burger from the grill alongside your knitting.

Thanks for stopping by, and Knit in Good Health!

(For anyone really counting, CKW started attending this event in 2009! 2020 was a Covid bust, so that means this is Woolapalooza Number FIFTEEN!)

I'll Get Right to the Point

Cedar Point, in Sandusky, that is...and this has been a good week! It started with a trip to "The Point" (aka roller coaste heaven) with my girl for Mother's Day,

That lovely, new coaster was not ready for business, but I was! Fountain drink at 10am? Coaster after that? Yes, please!

Then there was a lovely gift from my son...lol! This blanket is great AND hilarious!

Even a gift from the Hubby (aka "Dad," when our daughter does the wrapping, and our grandson presents the gift)!

On top of a great start to the week on Sunday, I also finished the fish for my [fish]bowl at work on Monday morning,

and at Thursday knitting, I helped kitchener this glorious heap of golden cables!

"What's in the background?," you ask... Why, that's a nearly finished pair of socks with little dots that look a bit like sheep...

and by Friday night, they were finished

and on my feet!

All of that, while plugging along toward my first Summer Vacation in a very long time, means that I have been super-busy and loving it!

I wonder when I'll get to The Point again? I hope it's soon! Anyone wanna come with? 😁

Goin' Fishin' in my Brain

Fishin'? Well, this is what I am knitting now:

Why fish? There are two reasons:
1. I need to fill my decorative bowl at work with something, now that Easter is over (originally, I thought I would knit a sky full of stars with attitude, but I fizzled after about five of these cuties...)

and 2. June is soon! (My ZK2025 shirt came this week, yay!)

Knitting tiny things is one of the Knitalong Challenges for the upcoming event, and I think I may make a couple dozen fish to enter...ha! Having the Zombie Knitpocolypse so close (June 19-21) means that I will be going slightly out of my mind with enthusiastic anticipation of a fun, yarny weekend with friends, and sometimes losing concentration for the regular things...lol!

You know what happens when I lose concentration? Well, my mind wanders a bit.

What does it wander to? Many times it's yarn, for sure, but sometimes it just wanders. Sometimes, when I'm sitting in a room that wishes not to be disclosed, my brain goes fishin' (so to speak) and I see this:

Don't see it? What about now?

Still no? You don't see the little doggie?

Pardon my drawing. This is a skill I have not unlocked.
Wait. That's crazy, you say? Even crazier, what if I also see a larger dog?

The two dogs actually share a nose, if you can believe it...

I'll never NOT see them again, so now I have a favorite bathroom stall at work, and that's what my mind went fishin' for this week...bwaaahahahahahaha!

Yes, you're right. That's a little weird...but it's fairly "on-brand" for Pretty. My friends know this about me, and they still hang out with me to knit. Of course, some of my friends' cats are occasionally judgmental...
Why is he looking at me like that? I just finished a sock!
I'm supposed to be dancing!!!
but cats lick their own...ummmm...feet...sooooo, who are they to judge, really? Eventually, I think he stopped judging. He even offered his belly for a good rub... Wait. I think this is a trap...😜

I hope you are finding joy and judgement-free zones this weekend. For those of you who are moms, and those of you who have moms, I hope Sunday is a good day. And if you are struggling with trauma that will make Sunday difficult, I hope you find moments of peace and even joy, despite those difficult emotions. In any case, I'm glad to see you here, so leave me a little comment about something you're looking forward to!

Upside-Down and Inside-Out

Remember this fun project, started in Michigan with an 8-year-old? I worked on it with her in the beginning,

but over time, she lost interest in the actual stitching...lol! She is young and full of energy! Who can sit still to hand stitch squares in 2024?...

Then hand quilt in 2025? Apparently, that's a job for Pretty, and here's the back of the quilt to prove it!

That little upside-down shot shows that the lines aren't perfectly straight, and I maybe should have taken the time to do one more row of stitches around the perimeter...but it was bound before the end of last weekend's visit, so that's a yay!

Still, I wanted to secure the binding with a little decorative stitching, so I brought it home to do that...

And this Pretty Knitty (and granddaughter) quilt will be reunited with that 10-year-old this summer, when they come to visit ME!

How will I pass the time until that glorious day? Probably a little inside-out sock knitting!

I've found it's the best way to control my tension on colorwork socks, and I'm looking forward to getting this pair on my feet soon! (Upside-down and inside-out can be good things, depending on your perspective, but I hope most of your days are more sunny-side up, in general.) I'm sure there will be a reveal in next week's post, so be sure to come back and check it out!
