Merry Christmas in July!

It's Christmas in July! Complete with PRESENTS (for one lucky winner)!
Yep, I said winner! That means it's a contest, and that means join in! Here's how to play:

Leave me a Comment on this post telling me what your favorite "vintage" TV show is! (I like Little House on the Prairie, and the Donny & Marie Show, but there are no extra points for copying me!)

That's all there is to it! I am feeling a little like celebrating today because I have officially started my Christmas shopping and knitting! Woo Hoo! (Of course, I can't tell you much about the knitting besides that. . .but if you are on Ravelry, you will see projects popping up!) The lucky winner will get a surprise package from Pretty Knitty! (Please remember that this is a knitting blog, and the prize is likely to be related to knitting in some way. . .)

It IS still the "dog days" of summer, but I am feeling generous, and I want to give something away. . .the cat doesn't much care. . .sigh!
But if you are interested in winning a Pretty Knitty Surprise Prize Present, enter NOW! I will accept contest entries until NEXT SATURDAY (7/31/10), so comment now!
Knit in Good Health!

  1. OHH I love still love Seinfeld, and Friends...but Seinfeld is my fave...does it count as vintage yet? If you need older than that I always loved the MuppetShow!

Don't get the dog days of summer...all my dogs want to do is lay on the AC vents!

  2. I'd have to say my favorite was "Gun Smoke" watched it every week with my Dad. Also "M.A.S.H." when I was a bit older. I had/have such a crush on Hawkeye. Hummana Hummana. LOL!

  3. LOL, this is REALLY vintage - The Man From Uncle, a show that was basically a background vehicle for the yummy and exotic spy Illya Kuryakin (David McCallum). My mom and I watched that show every week. She thought it was basically a background vehicle for Robert Vaughn. ;-) Oddly, my dad didn't much care for it at all and couldn't believe we watched it every single week.

P.S. There's an episode on NCIS where Abbey wonders what Ducky (David McCallum!) was like in his younger days, and Gibbs says to her, "He looked just like Illya Kuryakin."

  4. This is Bonnie (grammaknitsfor 4) I never know how to choose a profile at the end so I pick anonymous...

I loved Beauty and the Beast, the TV series, however I don't have a clue how long ago it was on. Love boat and Fantasy Island were also two of my "must watch" shows. One more... Dark Shadows was my first soap opera! Apparently that was when I developed my obsession for vampire stories!

  5. Not many people remember "Here Come the Brides" but I loved it. It was set in old time Seattle and starred Bobby Sherman.

  14. Okay so I just found your blog thanks to the lovely Rachele Alpine! She knitted a scarf and showed it off which got me thinking I'd like to learn so that evening I went to the store bought yarn and a set of knitting needle and now I'm on my way to knitting a scarf! It's so much fun and now I've met you and you're having a lovely knitting package would be so neat! So here I am following you and answering the question you've asked.

I loved Seinfeld, Friends, Three's Company, never too many to enjoy :)

ok, well I love all the shows previously posted, but my all time favorite is I Love Lucy. No wait, what about Marcus Welby, MD.

  17. Mary Tyler Moore is my favorite truly vintage TV show.

However, if Seinfeld and Friends are considered vintage now then so is Remember WENN and that is one of my all time favorites. Bonus - it's set circa 1940 and therefore satisfies another definition of vintage.

  18. We were just talking about this subject at work today. I use to love the show Soap. My grandma and I use to watch it together and crack up. My favorite characters on the show were Chuck and Bob. I'm not sure the content was appropriate for me since I was only about 8 or 9 but I still loved it.

  19. Perry Mason. I love it when he frustrates D.A. Hamilton Burger to the point of yelling at the top of his lungs in the courtroom. I love how he stays one step ahead of the law, most of the time. When he doesn't, it's because he's tricking them into doing what he what he wants. Best courtroom show ever, best detective show ever. And, it's Mom-approved, because it's her favorite show, too. Sidenote - Here Comes The Brides also featured Joan Blondell, a great actress from the 30s. She was my favorite character.

  20. Okay, maybe it's because I graduated from St. Olaf College, but the Golden Girls is definitely on my list. ^- ^

  21. My favorite vintage tv show is the old black and white superman show with george reeve lol... i used to watch it all the time on tv land growing up! :D

  22. I don't know if I'm old enough to have seen any 'vintage' shows when they came out, but I used to love watching reruns of the Brady Bunch (though my mum couldn't stand it).

    ReplyDelete
  23. I almost hate to admit it, but I really like "Hogan's Heroes" - it's so politically incorrect and unrealistic, but it's funny too. I can remember watching reruns with my dad, and amazingly, my husband also likes it. Thank goodness for TV Land

  24. I'm not a big tv watcher, but the old spiderman cartoons smell childhood to me - and surprices always makes me happy ;-)

  25. Hands down...Waltons Mountain was my favorite. I have lived in VA for a number of years, but sadly have yet to make it to see this area.

  26. I LOVED Grizzly Adams as a kid. Loved.

  27. I'd sit on my dad's lap and watch The Lone Ranger, Roy Rogers, The Cisco Kid and the 1 non-western Robin Hood. That was early TV with Howdy Doody and Ding Dong School being the favs back then. Later I loved Ghoulardi, Laugh In, SNL and yes, like Amy said The Waltons. Pata

  28. I was always a fan of "the bloodhound Gang" and 3-2-1 Contact! as a kid..for some reason childhood shows come to mind when I think 'vintage'..

A show that was my fav - only because I wasn't supposed to be watching it -was the Dukes of Hazard

but don't remind me how close Christmas really is!! ;) Thanks for the nudge and walk down memory lane :)

  29. I go way back for my very favorite show "The Jack Benny Show." He was so funny and so dead-pan, just loved him. The westerns like "Bonanza" and "Paladin" had me dreaming of riding horses and being a hero in the old west.

    ReplyDelete
  30. The Carol Burnett Show. I recently saw a clip with Harvey Corman and Tim Conway that had me rolling on the floor. Tim played Harvey's dentist and he kept stabbing himself with the Novocaine needle. Hilarious. And, of course, there's the famous Scarlett O'Hara skit.

  35. Sonny and Cher -- am I showing my age? To be fair, I was a wee child when my mom watched, though I have fond memories and STILL adore Cher. I also loved the Partridge Fanmily :)
